Navratri is a special occasion. A time for new beginnings
and offering your dedication and reverence to the Goddess Shakti.
The nine
forms of Goddess Durga are: Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta,
Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidhatri.
Navratri is also a colorful festival and to celebrate this
you should choose the right colors. For nine days of Navratri, you can dress up
in nine different colors which not only make you happy but also complete your
Navratri festival season .
Day 1-Maa Shailaputri
- On the first day of Navratri we worship Goddess Shailputri. Shailputri means
the Daughter of a Mountain. As she took birth as the daughter of Parvatraaj
Himalaya (King of the Mountain Himalaya) she is known as Shailputri. She is the
First among the Navdugra . It is said that one should worship Maa Shailputri to
make full use of the precious human life. Therefore, this Avtar of Goddess
Durga is worshipped on the first day of Navratri.

Day 2- Maa
Brahmacharini - Brahma-charini means one who practices tapasya. Maa
Brahmacharini is the second form of Goddess Durga and people worship her on the
second day of Navratri. She is the unmarried form of Goddess Parvati who was
born at the home of Daksha Prajapati.
Goddess Brahmcharini blesses you with great emotional strength
and you may be able to keep your mental balance and confidence even in the
darkest hour. She inspires you to hold on to your ethics and march on the path
of duty. Her blessings help you get rid of selfishness, ego, greed and
laziness.

Day 3- Maa
Chandraghantaa-Maa durga's third form is Maa Chandraghanta. She is known as
Chandraghanta because she is adorned by a Crescent Moon (Chandra) shaped like a
Ghantaa (a metallic bell).
Maa Chandraghanta punishes the demons and devilish persons.
She ensures justice by saving her devotees from all kinds of dangers. By
worshipping Maa Chrandraghanta, you will open the doors to great respect, fame
and glory. Maa also helps you attain
spiritual enlightenment. She gives us
the strength to keep the negative energy away and repels all the troubles from our
life.

Day 4- Maa Kushmanda-Kushmanda
is worshiped on the fourth day of the festival of Navratri . When the world was
not in existence, there was darkness all around. At this time, Maa Kushmandaa
created the Brahmand with her 'Ishat'
laughter. This way, she is the creator of the whole universe and she is
the aadi shakti. She is believed to reside in the innermost core of Sun. Her
light and energy energizes all ten directions.
She is believed to improve health and bestow wealth and
strength. Maa brings light into darkness and establishes harmony in our life.

Day 5- Maa Skanmata- Maa
Skanmata is the fifth form of Hindu
Goddess Durga. Literally meaning Mother of Skanda, her name comes from word, Skanda
is another name for War God and her son Kartikeya and Mata is the term for
mother. Her worship takes place on the fifth day of Navaratri.
It is believed that
she awards devotees with salvation, power, prosperity and treasures. She can
grant oceans of wisdom even to most illiterate person, if he happens to worship
her. Skandamātā who possesses the brilliance of the sun fulfils all the desires
of her devotees.

Day 6- Maa Katyayini-
Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on the sixth day of Navratri. To destroy demon
Mahishasura, Goddess Parvati took the form of Goddess Katyayani. It was the
most violent form of Goddess Parvati. In this form Goddess Parvati is also
known as Warrior Goddess.

Day 7- Maa Kaalratri- The 7th day of Navaratri
is dedicated to Maa Kalratri. Kaalratri
means the One who is the Death of Kaal. Maa Kalratri destroys ignorance and
brings light into the dark. To Her devotees, She brings calmness and courage.

Day 8- Maa Mahagauri-The 8th day of Navaratri is
dedicated to Maa Mahagauri .Maa Mahagauri purifies the souls of Her devotees
and removes all their sins. She has a calming effect on the lives of Her
devotees and she also helps them improve their knowledge.

Day 9- Maa Sidhidaatri- Maa Siddhidatri grants Her devotees all sorts of achievements and is capable of giving all sorts of occult powers. She is the possessor of 26 different wishes (Siddhis) which She grants Her worshipers. The legend has it that the Lord Shiva got all those Siddhis by worshipping Maa Shakti. With Her gratitude the half body of Lord Shiva became that of Maa Shakti, and therefore he was called as Ardhnarishvar.
